tests/scripts/linux-backends.sh:60 — The OCR assertion always expects English while the application inherits its locale. Running with ELY_LOCALE=zh-CN maps and renders the window successfully, then fails because the supported Chinese interface contains no “Open a repository”. Pin ELY_LOCALE=en in the application's launch environment when asserting English text. Evidence: .work/l1.1-r3-chinese.log; forcing English passes both backends in .work/l1.1-r3-fixed-locale.log.
tests/scripts/linux-backends.sh:59 — OCR failure diagnostics are discarded. With Tesseract installed but TESSDATA_PREFIX pointing to an existing empty directory, the script exits 1 with no output; the missing eng.traineddata and initialization errors disappear into /dev/null. Preserve Tesseract's stderr or include it in an explicit failure message. Evidence: .work/l1.1-r3-missing-tessdata.log, .work/l1.1-r3-ocr-error-evidence.log, .work/l1.1-r3-verification.log.
