Basecamp, Discord, HEY, Google Contacts/Maps/Messages/Photos,
WhatsApp, and X lose their shipped launchers, webapp keybindings,
and the whatsapp-slim extension; aether, libreoffice-fresh, and
obs-studio leave the base package set. The HEY mailto handler and
its registration go with them. Preinstall add/remove lists, the
launcher hide list, and chromium flags stay in sync.

omarchy-notification-send now calls org.freedesktop.Notifications.Notify
directly with `busctl --user`, instead of shelling out to notify-send. Each
value is one typed D-Bus parameter, so there is no argv/option layer that could
reinterpret a relayed headline like `--hint=…` or `-rf` as an option or a hint:
the summary and body are strings, and omarchy-exec-argv is built only from
--exec. A leading `--` keeps busctl's own getopt from reading a dash-leading
value as a busctl option.
Map -i to app_icon, -t to expire_timeout, and urgency to the byte hint; unknown
options are now a hard error rather than a silent pass-through. Route the unused
hypr o.notify helper and the sample hooks through the wrapper too, and tighten
the bin-style test so nothing under bin/ may call notify-send. The test stubs
busctl and trips if notify-send is invoked.
Providers never returned JSON rows: they are shell-defined row sources
emitting tab-delimited lines, and extensions cannot declare new names.
bar.shellQuote moved to Util.qml, and the UpperCamelCase widget id
migration no longer exists.

tmux set the outer terminal title from `set-titles-string '#h:#W'`, which
is what Hyprland reads for the group bar label. herdr had no equivalent,
so grouped terminals kept whatever the shell or ssh last set - most
visibly wrong when connected to a remote machine.
herdr now renders `ui.window_title` on the server, so mirror the tmux
line. herdr's own default matches, but setting it here keeps the group
bar correct regardless of what upstream picks as its default.

There is nothing to read or switch when only one layout is configured, so the
label is noise on the bar most people have. Hide it until the keyboard reports
more than one, and keep showing it on a Hyprland that doesn't report the list
at all rather than hiding the widget everywhere.

optional -light twin), the limits meters read a generic limits array, and

Cross-device sync aggregation stays in the shell and keeps the snapshot
field names older versions wrote, so mixed-version fleets still merge in

With the provider fan-out gone, the widget takes its real name: the plugin

mentions it — layout entries keep their settings and position, a disabled
widget stays disabled — then primes the data files once and drops the old
scanner cache. The migration test also drops a stale assertion that expected
migrations to restart the shell themselves, which c992cdff moved to

the same callback to both the dark and the light query and later detached one
detached the other too, leaving the query it still held deaf to theme

twice. addListener is a legacy alias of addEventListener("change"), so the
two share one registration space and either remover cancels either add —

The refresh test signalled a synthetic sleeper carrying its own USR1 trap, so
it proved the refresh command sends a signal but would have stayed green
through any regression in the host's own trap, watchdog wait, or second
write. Drive the real host over a FIFO instead, count framed messages, and
assert the second one is a usable theme. Verified by neutering the host's
USR1 trap: the old test passed, this one fails.

The widget hid itself well enough that nobody found it: it only ever
appeared if you knew the id and ran `omarchy bar plugin add`, since it was
in neither the shipped layout nor any migration.
Defaulting it on costs nothing on machines that don't use it. Panel.qml is
`visible: providers.length > 0`, and Main.qml only counts a provider that
is enabled and has actually recorded prompts, sessions, active days, or a
rate limit. A box that has never run Claude Code or Codex draws an empty
bar item, and the icon arrives on its own at the first scan that finds
usage — which is the behavior the widget already advertised.
The migration skips any config that already lists the widget in any
section, so a curated bar keeps its own placement rather than gaining a
second copy.

CapsLock is the compose key, so Caps Lock has to live somewhere else, and
both Shifts together is where it went. That combination is easy to hit by
accident while typing, and the lock then sticks until you notice it and
hit both Shifts again.
shift:both_capslock_cancel sets the lock exactly the same way, but types
the Shift keys as ALPHABETIC rather than TWO_LEVEL, so the next lone
Shift releases it. Since a misfire happens while reaching for Shift
anyway, it clears itself almost immediately.
Compose is untouched: <CAPS> stays [Multi_key, Multi_key], so the
~/.XCompose emoji sequences work as before.

tmux only raises an activity flag for windows that are not currently
selected, so a long-running command in the window you left selected --
the common case, since you switch away by moving your Hyprland focus
elsewhere rather than by selecting another tmux window -- finished
silently and the indicator never lit.
Windows now also count as waiting when they are selected in an attached
client, every client showing them is unfocused, and their window_activity
is newer than an @omarchy_unfocused_activity watermark. The watermark is
stamped by a new `track` subcommand wired to client-focus-in/out and the
existing select-window hooks, so it records where attention last was.
The hooks pass #{window_id} and #{window_activity} as arguments, which
tmux expands when the hook fires; run-shell -b would otherwise let output
arriving during the handoff be swallowed by the new watermark. The focus
hooks take index 100 to leave a user's own bindings alone.
That state has no hook of its own, so it needs polling to be noticed.
The probe therefore moves out of the indicator and into a service plugin,
alongside nightlight and battery. A bar surface exists per monitor and
each one instantiates every indicator twice, once per block, so a timer
on the indicator meant a shell-out per instance per tick -- four probe
processes every three seconds on a two-monitor machine, forever. One
service polls for the whole shell instead.
Sharing the state also fixes what per-instance polling would have papered
over: each indicator used to own its own count, so a timer-driven update
only refreshed the bar it ran on and left the other monitors stale.
Refreshes still arrive over the existing indicator broadcast, which now
coalesces into a single run no matter how many bars relay it.

The lineup now reads toward the clock instead of away from it, so Stay
Awake sits nearest the time, then do-not-disturb, night light, reminder,
screen recording, dictation, and tmux alerts trailing off to the left.
Active indicators render after the hover-revealed ones so they stay
against the clock, and a newly active indicator joins on the far side
rather than shoving the ones already showing sideways.

system-config-printer ships /etc/xdg/autostart/print-applet.desktop, so
installing it for the printer GUI also starts a ~24 MiB Python tray applet
in every session whose only job is print-job notifications. Override it
with a Hidden=true entry in config/autostart (same mechanism already used
for fcitx5 and limine-snapper-notify), so the applet no longer autostarts.
Printing and the system-config-printer GUI are unaffected.
Verified: with the override in place, systemd's xdg-autostart generator no
longer produces app-print\x2dapplet@autostart.service.

Chromium-based browsers auto-detect their os_crypt backend at launch. On
Hyprland the xdg-desktop-portal Secret backend has no provider, so the
autodetect can fall back to the 'basic' (v10) store, making previously
v11-encrypted cookies and saved passwords undecryptable — the user is
silently logged out of everything. Pin gnome-libsecret (the stock
omarchy keyring) so the backend is deterministic, matching what we
already do for VSCode.
Migration covers chromium, brave, chrome, and edge flags confs for
existing installs.

The canonical colors.toml keys are now background/foreground, including
all permutations (dark_background, darker_background, lighter_background,
dark_foreground, light_foreground, bright_foreground). The old short
names are gone entirely, not kept as aliases; legacy alacritty-generated
themes still resolve through the ANSI color0/color7 fallback.
Theme files are also regrouped: accent/selection/muted first, then the
backgrounds, then the foregrounds, then the named colors.

- Single env bootstrap at default/bash/env-bootstrap sourced by
/etc/profile.d/omarchy.sh, /etc/skel/.bashrc,

- omarchy-font-set uses awk against our own 30-omarchy.conf instead
of xmlstarlet; xmlstarlet dropped from omarchy-base.packages.
- Defer user systemd enables (bt-agent, sleep-lock,
recover-internal-monitor) to first-run via
install/user/first-run/enable-user-units.sh; delete
omarchy-user-systemctl-enable and the per-hardware install
scripts that called it.
- Wireplumber bluetooth-a2dp-autoconnect.conf moves to config/ so
/etc/skel ships it; install/user/hardware/bluetooth.sh deleted.
- Default terminal switched to foot.desktop.
- docs/file-layout.md documents the three-layer model and the
build-time repo→path map.
Remove legacy online installer entrypoints, collapse migrations for 4.0, and move setup responsibilities into target-side system, hardware, and user commands.
The git-era flow installed Omarchy to ~/.local/share/omarchy. In the
package-based flow it lives at /usr/share/omarchy (or, in dev mode, at
the path /etc/omarchy.conf's OMARCHY_PATH points at). Files that hard-
coded the old path broke on package installs:
- default/bash/rc: sourced ~/.local/share/omarchy/default/bash/*, so a
fresh user's terminal logged ENOENT for every line. Now sources from
$OMARCHY_PATH with /usr/share/omarchy as the safe default if the var
is unset.
- config/systemd/user/omarchy-recover-internal-monitor.service:
ExecStart pointed at %h/.local/share/omarchy/bin/. The script ships
to /usr/bin via the omarchy-installer package; point straight there.
- install/config/xcompose.sh: wrote an XCompose include line pointing
at the user-home path; use /usr/share/omarchy/ directly.
- default/hypr/paths.lua and config/hypr/hyprland.lua: fallback when
OMARCHY_PATH is unset is /usr/share/omarchy, not the home path.
Dev-only scripts (omarchy-dev-add-migration, omarchy-reinstall-git) and
the SKILL.md docs still reference the old path; those are separate
cleanups since they don't affect a fresh install's runtime.
A pass over the install scripts, dev-tools commands, and Hyprland Lua
files that I had stuffed with explain-everything preambles. Most of
those rationales (which files ship where, why hyprctl setenv doesn't
suffice, etc.) belong in commit messages or PR descriptions, not in
code people have to read forever. Kept the few comments that document
genuinely non-obvious behaviour: the keybind-env reason for hl.env in
envs.lua, why the runtime PAM seds stay scripted in
increase-lockout-limit, the chroot/--now distinction in chroot.sh, and
the dev-pkg-test split-install reason.
Lua's require() caches modules in package.loaded; without explicit
invalidation, changes to default/hypr/*.lua or ~/.config/hypr/*.lua
won't take effect after hyprctl reload even though hyprland.lua itself
re-runs.
The clear runs unconditionally — benefits both dev-link workflows
(checkout files re-evaluate after every reload) and normal users who
edit their own ~/.config/hypr/*.lua and run omarchy-restart-hyprctl.
Cost is negligible: package.loaded has a handful of entries.
Pattern matches the require_all.lua reload option (which sets
package.loaded[module] = nil before require()), but applied broadly to
the omarchy module namespace at the entry point so individual modules
don't need to opt in.
