GPUI clears windows after the quit observers, so the desk's release ran close() and wiped what on_app_quit had kept. hold() lets the lock go unclosed; release then finds nothing to close. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Packages: packaging/macos/release.sh writes each app's .app and .dmg, the source archive and the upstream source archive (patched MuPDF, Git) to dist/. Linux and Windows recipes are in packaging/linux and packaging/windows; they have not been run on those systems.
Tests
cargo test --workspace, the window scripts in tests/scripts (macOS, Accessibility permission), and the benchmark tests/perf/bench.py.
