* Document five to seven second intro target
* Ease Matte Black intros into six seconds
* Play boot intros through OWE instead of a shell player
The merged desktop video path removes BackgroundVideo.qml and makes
BackgroundMedia image-only. This keeps the intro feature by resolving the
matching intro as before and playing it with 'owe intro', which owns the
decode and the reveal. OWE 0.2.3 adds that command. The shell holds the
theme color while resolving and cancels with 'owe intro-stop'.
* Make boot intro startup atomic
* Retry boot intro through login window
* Document required OWE intro protocol
* Add Last Horizon video boot intros
* Play boot intros with released OWE
Use `owe intro` instead of the unreleased intro-prepare/intro-commit
protocol from omacom/owe#5. The boot is recorded before playback, and
OWE's intro_result status decides whether a failed intro never started
(release the boot for retry) or was interrupted (keep it consumed).

* Re-encode Catppuccin intros with exact final frames
Same motion; the settled frames are encoded at a fixed high quality so
the handoff lands on the wallpaper (themotion 0c5e86c).

* Replace Lumon intros with themotion scenes
United in severance draws its lines and globe with a small pen-tip
light; Opinions equally wakes inside the picture's own screen and types
out the mark and tagline. Both keep the wallpaper's proportions, so the
handoff holds its shape. Made with https://github.com/yamz8/themotion
(scenes/lumon/*).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Land the Last Horizon intros exactly on their wallpapers
Same footage and timing; the last 0.4 s now blends into the wallpaper as
the shell draws it (libwebp decode, BT.709 limited range), with the
settled frames at high quality. Re-finished with themotion fit (09f156e).

* Replace White 3-white with a themotion scene and land 1-2 exactly
3-white folds and slides its paper sheets into place along their
diagonal (themotion scenes/white/3-white). 1-white and 2-white keep
their footage and timing; their last 0.4 s now blend into the wallpaper
as the shell draws it (themotion fit).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Replace Ristretto 0-1 with themotion scenes and land 2-3 exactly
0-launch lifts its stripes off and bends them into their curves, and
1-color-curves fans its colour bands in along their curves (themotion
scenes/ristretto/*). 2-coffee-beans and 3-industrial-moon keep their
footage and timing; their last 0.4 s now blend into the wallpaper as
the shell draws it (themotion fit).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Replace Vantablack intros: new layer scenes, shared dot-hands cut
0-dot-hands uses the Matte Black cut, since both themes ship the same
wallpaper. 1-twisted-stairs keeps its footage and lands exactly on the
wallpaper (themotion fit). 2-layers-deep opens its depth front to back
and 3-layers-stacked lays its papercut stack down sheet by sheet
(themotion scenes/vantablack/*), replacing footage that opened on
unrelated shapes and a plain fade-in.

* Drop the shockwave ring from the Totoro intro
The moon now opens from its seed of light with only its halo; the thin
ring racing outward read as clutter (themotion 6970484).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Drop the shockwave ring from the blue-eye intro
The eye closes with its pulse and halo only (themotion, same change as
Totoro's).

* Land the earlier footage intros exactly on their wallpapers
Everforest, Osaka Jade, Catppuccin Latte and two Matte Black intros
were finished before the exact-ending tooling and ended 0.9-4 levels
off their wallpapers (up to 134 on small spots). Their footage and
timing are unchanged; the last 0.4 s now blend into the wallpaper as the
shell draws it (themotion fit).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Fade two Matte Black intros up from black
ship-at-sea and dark-waters opened at brightness 17-20, so they popped
in after the black cover. They now fade up over 0.3 s; the cuts and
their exact endings are otherwise unchanged (themotion fit --fade-in).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Drop the Flexoki Light intro for now
Its orb scene isn't good enough yet, so Flexoki Light starts on its still
until a better intro is ready.

(cherry picked from commit bfe60d6c0a7a0983509a2dc2b295693bec2ceeb8)
* Skip boot intros while animations are off
A VM starts with animations off, and there Hyprland renders on the CPU, so a
video intro costs the most. The launcher now consumes the boot without playing
when Hyprland reports animations:enabled false, and the shell's cover check
treats that, like the intros toggle, as nothing to wait for.

* Add Miasma video boot intro for Crowned
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Keep boot intro startup outside the background service
OWE destroys and recreates the background plugin during playback. Keep the launcher and black cover in the persistent shell host, consume the boot before waiting briefly for OWE, and start on the video's first frame. The startup check runs with a video background too, so enabling the still background service later cannot play an intro over an established desktop.
Co-Authored-By: Codex Medium <codex@openai.com>
* Release the boot marker lock before waiting for OWE
The marker settles startup once it is written. Keeping the lock through readiness and playback makes a fresh shell wait for an older launcher before it can discover that the boot was consumed, leaving the still covered during that wait.
* Keep the boot intro cover above native and cloned backgrounds
Cloned backgrounds receive a scoped shell interface without the startup coordinator. Keep the input-transparent cover in the persistent host so every background stays hidden until OWE has a frame, without widening the plugin interface.
Co-Authored-By: Codex Medium <codex@openai.com>
* Map the startup cover only for an unsettled boot
The cover must know the boot was already consumed before its first frame, so restarting the shell during playback leaves OWE visible. Snapshot the marker without watching subsequent writes: the launcher consumes this boot before the intro starts, while the cover remains needed until the first decoded frame.
* Exercise automatic boot cover release in the clone test
The fixture hid the cover itself before the fake launcher exited, so a broken exit handler still passed. Let the launcher finish before checking the actual background pixels and leave cover release to the service.

* Finish the Miasma, Kanagawa, Ethereal and Nord intros
Start each intro on its scene instead of fading in from black, since
OWE now starts intros on their first frame.
- Miasma Crowned: ejuro's intro, shortened to 6.7 s and opening on the lit hand
- Nord Night Hawks: ejuro's intro
- Kanagawa: rendered in the wallpaper's own shape, so the handoff matches on
16:10 and 3:2 screens too
- Ethereal, Nord and Miasma Crowned: 1080p endings that blend into the exact
wallpaper, so the handoff no longer sharpens visibly
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Finish the Tokyo Night intros
Start each intro on its scene instead of fading in from black, since
OWE now starts intros on their first frame.
- Winding Road: a new starry night to sunset with no added clouds or sun,
ending on the wallpaper
- Quattro: a new take where the car lands in the wallpaper's exact pose,
colour-matched to the wallpaper
- Oma Cityscape: drop the second, larger moon that faded out at the end
- Quattro, Swirl Buck, Omakub and Oma Cityscape: 1080p endings that blend
into the exact wallpaper, so the handoff no longer sharpens visibly

* Pair background intros by filename and play them on theme switches
Keep matching clips in backgrounds/intros so the selected image determines playback without registration, overrides, or checksum sidecars. Retain one global toggle and play automatically at boot and on a different theme selection.
Launch theme playback after releasing the selection lock. Check the staged theme directory identity so an older launcher cannot play a newer selection when filenames are reused. Skipped or failed playback immediately hands the selected still to the shell, including new pixels behind an unchanged path.
Synchronize the clone screenshot fixture with capture instead of a fixed launcher lifetime, while still requiring the real exit handler to release the cover.
Co-Authored-By: Codex Medium <codex@openai.com>
* Settle pending background colors when applying the current theme
An intro applies its theme immediately while a previous still-image reveal may still hold an older palette. Replace and consume that pending palette through the background's existing handoff methods so its reveal or fallback timer cannot restore old colors. Reusing those methods also works with existing background clones.
Publish the fake renderer's PID before announcing playback readiness, so the lock test cannot read an unwritten PID file. Regressions reproduce both failures on 7b238cf1 and pass with the fixes, including a deliberate scheduling delay at PID publication.
Co-Authored-By: Greptile <165735046+greptile-apps[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>
* Use the existing animations menu toggle for background intros
Keep the separate intro command available without another Style menu control. Disabled animations already suppress playback at boot and on theme changes.
Use remembered backgrounds with matching clips when testing suppressed theme intros, and require the normal still transition so the checks cannot pass merely because no clip was selected.
Co-Authored-By: Codex Medium <codex@openai.com>
* Finish the Lupine intros
Start each intro on its scene instead of fading in from black, since
OWE now starts intros on their first frame.
- Cherry Blossom White: a new take that pulls back from fresh leaves to the
whole tree, easing to a stop on the wallpaper
- Pastel Clouds: drop the unrelated starry opening and its dip to black
- Elegant Blue Wave: drop the empty white opening
- Cherry Blossom Bokeh, Pastel Clouds, Elegant Blue Wave and Cherry Blossom
White: 1080p endings that blend into the exact wallpaper

* Restore the wallpaper early on each login
* Keep the startup wallpaper cover transparent
* Wait for readiness in the intro lifecycle test
* Consume login intros for updates outside Hyprland

* Keep compositor backgrounds black during login
* Keep the shell visible through compositor shutdown
* Bound the login cover when startup media fails
* Encode the 1440p intros at H.264 level 5.1
At 2560x1440 the previous encodes used 16 reference frames, which puts
them at level 6.0. Intel hardware decoding plays those with stray grey
blocks. Four reference frames keep them at level 5.1, like the other
intros. Swirl Buck's stag now changes colour as one silhouette instead
of leaving a shrinking black disc on its head.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Hide the startup cursor until the desktop fades in
* Restore Swirl Buck's original stag
The stag now changes colour exactly as in the original clip again;
the previous edit made it jump from black to purple in one frame.

* Initialize the startup cursor before the first compositor frame
* Render the Hackerman intros at 1440p
Both open on their first motion instead of fading in from black.

* Render the Lumon intros at 1440p
Both open on their first motion instead of fading in from black.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Sharpen the Lupine intros
Upscaled from the original 720p clips and exported at 1440p with a
gentler encode, keeping the same frames, timing and endings.

* Resolve login intros before the wallpaper daemon starts
* Synchronize cold-start captures with the fixture phases
* Sharpen the rest of the Tokyo Night intros
Winding Road and Sunset Lake are regenerated natively at 1440p from
their wallpapers, since their original clips were 360p and 720p.
Omakub and Oma are redrawn from their wallpapers with the same motion.

* Make application transparency opt-in
* Use the transparency helper for Kanagawa
* Address transparency review findings
* Toggle transparency for opaque windows too
A machine without a GPU, like most VMs, renders through llvmpipe on the
CPU, where every animated frame and every translucent window costs. In a
VM, opening and closing a terminal took ~5s of CPU; a panel ~3.4s.
omarchy toggle animations (also under Toggle > Animations) places a Hyprland
flag that turns off animations, blur and shadows and makes windows opaque.
The shell follows Hyprland's animations:enabled, rereading it on every
config reload: its one-shot animations run for Style.duration(ms), which
is then 0, and its spinners, pulses and title marquee hold still. A new
install in a VM starts with the flag in place.
Measured in the ISO test VM (llvmpipe), CPU per interaction:
terminal open+close 5000ms -> 481ms, workspace switch 1670ms -> 409ms,
audio panel 3446ms -> 796ms, volume OSD 2324ms -> 584ms, menu 2028ms ->
1241ms.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
To open a new terminal in the focused terminal's directory, the launcher
asked Hyprland for the active window with hyprctl, ~10ms on every
SUPER+RETURN. The binding now reads the pid from hl.get_active_window() and
passes it as --pid. Without one, from the menu or a shell, the launcher asks
Hyprland as before.
The bind is now a Lua function, which Hyprland reports only as __lua, so
o.bind_commands records the command it stands for and the keybindings menu
still launches a terminal when the entry is picked.

* Navigate Elsewhen from the keyboard and summon it with Super+Ctrl+Alt+E
Up and down walk home and the cities, lighting the picked row and turning
the globe to it. Left and right move the clocks an hour, held until Escape
or close. Escape now clears a shifted time before leaving the globe.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Reach Add a city from the keyboard and shift time past a day
Down past the last city selects Add a city, where Return or Space opens the
search. The arrow keys no longer stop at twelve hours, and shifts past a day
read in days.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Delete the picked Elsewhen city from the keyboard
Delete (or x) removes the picked city and moves the cursor to the one that
takes its place. The picked row shows its × so the target is plain. Delete
now reaches every panel's deleteRequested, as it already does in the
clipboard and the menu.

* Center bar glyphs on the open-panel underline
The 16px icon canvas in the 27px slot was snapped from 5.5 to 6, and the
glyph's fractional centering correction was snapped too, so glyphs sat up to
0.9px right of the underline, which centers on the slot. Both are now placed
exactly, and the geometry test measures against the slot to within 0.05px.

The OSD, the reminder flow and the Wi-Fi QR code now keep a surface that
parks as a 1x1 in the corner and grows when shown. They were missing from
the layer rule that turns Hyprland's layer animation off for the shell's
overlays, so Hyprland animated that growth: the OSD flew in from the left.
Add them to the rule, and test that every OverlayWindow's namespace is in
it.

Each brightness key ran omarchy-brightness-display: resolving the focused
monitor and backlight device, checking for an Apple display, reading,
writing and reading back through brightnessctl, then omarchy-osd over a
qs IPC client. That is 64-133ms from keypress to OSD depending on load,
on keys that repeat while held.
The brightness up and down keys now dispatch global shortcuts. On an
internal panel the shell reads the level from sysfs, steps it by the
script's rules, writes it with one brightnessctl, and shows the OSD from
the level read back. A press overlapping one still being applied is
dropped, as the script's flock drops it. External and Apple displays
fall back to the script, which drives them over DDC or their own helper.
The absolute and precise brightness keys still run the script.
Across 24 steps from eight starting levels the shell and the script land
on identical levels, and keypress to OSD drops to ~31ms.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Step the volume in the shell instead of a script per keypress
Each volume key ran omarchy-audio-output-volume: several pactl calls in
bash, then omarchy-osd delivering the OSD over a qs IPC client, ~165ms
from keypress to OSD, on keys that repeat while held.
The volume up, down and mute keys now dispatch global shortcuts that the
media service handles over PipeWire, stepping, clamping, unmuting and
debouncing by the script's rules and showing the same OSD. It acts only
when the default sink is an ALSA sink, which is its own physical sink.
Any other default, a DSP chain or EasyEffects above all, falls back to
the script, which resolves the physical sink from the live routing on
every press. The precise +1/-1 keys still run the script.
Keypress to OSD drops from ~168ms to ~20ms.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Run media and notification keys in the shell without an IPC client
The media keys and the notification dismiss, invoke and history keys ran
omarchy-shell, starting a qs client for one argument-free IPC call.
A new ipc shortcut kind names such a call as target.method. The shell
hands it to the service that owns the target, which runs its own
IpcHandler function, so the key behaves exactly as the omarchy-shell
call did. A call missing from the list binds through omarchy-shell.
Dismissing a notification with SUPER+comma clears the popup in ~11ms
instead of ~40ms.

* fix(screensaver): open in own special workspace instead of active
- The screensaver window rule sets fullscreen, and a workspace holds
only one fullscreen window
- Launching it on the active workspace drops the fullscreen window
already there, and leaves it windowed after the screensaver quits
* Keep a showing special workspace open through the screensaver
A monitor shows one special workspace at a time, so opening the screensaver on its own replaced a visible scratchpad, and it stayed hidden after the screensaver closed. Open it on the special workspace that is already showing instead; it covers that just as well, and the workspace is still there when it goes.
The test's stubbed event stream follows the one in #10870.

* Hand focus back after the screensaver closes
Hyprland focuses a monitor when its special workspace empties, so on more than one monitor keyboard focus ended up wherever the last screensaver happened to close, rather than where it was. A detached reader on the launcher's event stream waits for the last one to go and focuses the original monitor again; the launcher itself still exits straight away, as the idle service expects.

* Keep a remapped screensaver off the regular workspaces
The terminal occasionally maps its window again as it closes, after its special workspace is gone. The launcher's workspace only applies to the first map, so the window landed on the focused monitor's regular workspace, where its fullscreen rule took fullscreen from the window there. On Hyprland 0.56.2 with two monitors this happened in 4 of 45 cycles, each time losing the user's fullscreen. A class rule now sends any later map to a hidden special workspace; the launcher's exec rule still wins on the first map.

* Check for screensavers before waiting on their close
The focus watcher only looked for remaining screensavers after reading a closewindow, so one that never mapped, or closed while the launcher was still waiting on another monitor, left it blocked until some unrelated window closed, and then it pulled focus back to the old monitor. It now checks before each wait, and matches the exact class, passed through the environment so the screensaver's pgrep and pkill never see it in argv.

Every binding that opened a menu or panel ran omarchy-menu or
omarchy-shell, which starts a qs client just to deliver one IPC call:
~60ms before the shell heard about the keypress.
The shell now registers a Hyprland global shortcut for each menu route
and panel in default/omarchy/shortcuts, and o.bind turns { menu = ... }
and { panel = ... } into hl.dsp.global for those, so a keypress spawns
nothing. A route or panel missing from the list binds through the
command as before. The default menu and panel bindings use the new form.
SUPER+SPACE opens the menu in ~31ms instead of ~94ms, measured from a
simulated keypress until the menu layer maps.

The repo moved to the omacom org. GitHub redirects the old URLs, but
`omarchy channel set dev` was still cloning from basecamp/omarchy, which
left every dev checkout with a stale origin remote that confuses gh
(pr create fails with "No commits between omacom:quattro and

the update-confirm release link, the systemd Documentation link, and

1Password 8.12 changed its app id from "1Password" to
"com.onepassword.OnePassword" (its .desktop file now declares that as
StartupWMClass). Our window rule only matched the old name, so the main
window came up tiled and lost the no_screen_share protection.
Match both forms so older installs keep working.

A floating window on the console is not laid out by the gaps, so it no
longer stretches the panel to full width. Moving an app onto or off the
scratchpad and toggling floating now refit too, via
window.move_to_workspace and window.update_rules; both were measured on
Hyprland 0.56.2 to carry the settled count.

Hiding the top bar and removing the window gaps are the two things you
do to give the screen entirely to your windows, and doing both took two
hands and two hotkeys. `omarchy toggle fullscreen desktop` does them
together.
It only leaves full screen when both halves are in it, so hitting the
hotkey with just the bar hidden (or just the gaps gone) pulls the other
half into line instead of flipping the one you already set.

The scratchpad spanned the whole screen whatever was on it, which reads as a band rather than a console when it holds the single agent it is usually opened for. It now sizes to a centered panel twice as wide as it is tall, and hands the full width back as soon as a second app is on the scratchpad: two windows splitting a half-width column is worse than the band this replaced.
The panel is still drawn with workspace gaps rather than a window rule, because Hyprland resolves a rule's size once as the window maps and the console has to survive a rescale. It is always flush with the top and always centered, so two numbers describe it, and the memo that suppresses no-op rewrites compares those rather than four edges.
The window count is read on window.open and window.destroy, the two events that run after the workspace's count has settled; window.close and window.move_to_workspace both still count the window on its way out, so refitting from either reads one too many and strands the console at full width. The count is only chased while the console is on screen, since a hidden one is refitted on its way in by workspace.special_active, and every window opened anywhere on the desktop would otherwise rewrite the rule.
Monitor width and height are the panel's own pixels, so an output turned on its side still reports them the way the panel is built rather than the way it hangs. The odd transforms are the quarter turns and those swap the work area: without that a rotated 1920x1080 sized its console from 1920x1080 instead of 1080x1920 and left a 214x1367 sliver.

Catches the branch up on 94 commits so what lands here is reviewed against
current quattro, and so #8611 contributes its own five files rather than
dragging a partial catch-up in behind it.
The HUD is a frameless Electron window that paints its own per-pixel
transparency. Under the default rules it gets a compositor border and Omarchy's
window opacity on top, which turns the compact prompt into an outlined, muddy
canvas.
Scoped to the HUD by title, so the main Hermes window keeps the ordinary
treatment.

* Stop device names from being executed as Hyprland Lua
Hyprland input-device and monitor names come from USB descriptors and
hyprctl output, so they are attacker-influenceable, yet the toggle and
monitor commands interpolated them straight into hyprctl eval and into
generated Lua that Hyprland re-executes on every reload. The input-device
toggle keys are bound with locked = true, so a malicious USB name reached
Lua code execution from the lock screen; a persisted disable made it run
on every start. This closes that class everywhere it appeared.
- The touchpad/touchscreen disable is now the device name in a plain-text
sidecar file, read back by a packaged Lua module on reload, never a
generated Lua file. hyprctl eval Lua-quotes the name and control
characters are rejected outright.
- Dropped the shipped *-disabled.lua templates so nothing seeds a
disabled state to /etc/skel, making the name file the single source of
truth read from a hardcoded ~/.local/state to match the sibling tools.
- The reload loader excludes those two legacy filenames, so a leftover
generated *-disabled.lua on a not-yet-migrated install can never be
sourced as code again; a migration then recovers the device name from
it and deletes it, sanitizing installs that ran the vulnerable version.
- All four monitor scripts (internal, mirror, clamshell, scaling) now
validate an output name against a plain-connector-name pattern before
writing it as Lua, closing the same latent pattern in the siblings.
- paths.lua treats a set-but-empty XDG_STATE_HOME as unset, matching the
bash side so state is never read from the filesystem root.

* Let a failing Lua assertion fail the test
lua discards the status of a chunk read from stdin, so a blown assert printed its traceback and still exited 0: the surrounding `set -euo pipefail` never fired and the following `pass` printed `ok`. Every Lua block in these two files was unenforced, including the assertion that a quoted `hyprctl eval` cannot reach `os.execute` and the negative control that proves the test can detect the injection at all. Passing the chunk as a script argument makes lua report the failure.

* Re-apply a recovered input-device disable to the running session
The package hook reloads Hyprland during `omarchy-update-system-pkgs`, before `omarchy-migrate` runs, and at that reload the generated Lua is already excluded while the name file does not exist yet — so a touchpad or touchscreen the user had switched off comes back on, and stays on until their next login. Reload once more once the name has been recovered, which is the same path a login already takes to read it.

* Don't put the user in the docker group; make it opt-in
The docker group is root-equivalent: anything in it can `docker run -v /:/host`
and rewrite the host as root with no password. On a single-user box that's not
an escalation (the owner is already a wheel/sudo user), but it hands any code
running as the user — a rogue plugin, a poisoned dependency — a silent, headless,
passwordless path to root that sudo's password prompt would otherwise gate.
Stop granting the docker group by default. The daemon still runs (docker.socket);
the Docker TUI and the Windows VM reach it through a polkit prompt, and the plain
`docker` CLI runs under sudo. Sudoless Docker is a warned opt-in via
Setup > Security (omarchy-setup-security-sudoless-docker).
No automatic path may re-grant it: install and first-boot provisioning never
record or apply the group (provisioning also filters a docker line left in an
older factory snapshot), and the Quattro upgrade no longer adds it.
The Windows VM keeps needing the root daemon for a privileged container (KVM,
NET_ADMIN), so it is reworked to run without the group and without becoming a new
way in:
- The compose lives in a root-owned dir and is only written by an elevated,
input-validated writer. A root-invoked bring-up must never consume a file a
user-process could rewrite to bind-mount / into the guest — the old
~/.config/windows compose was exactly that. Volume paths are rebuilt from
$HOME on migration rather than trusted from the (user-writable) legacy file,
path validation rejects traversal, and the privileged sub-action is checked
against an allowlist before dispatch (a slash in it would otherwise run as a
path).
- pkexec elevates a verified root-owned command path, not a PATH-resolved one,
so an authorized prompt can't be redirected to an attacker's binary.
- The guest password is kept in a private 0600 per-user file for RDP instead of
a world-readable compose, and a declined authorization is reported as such,
never as a completed stop.
Existing installs auto-migrate the VM (no redownload) and refresh the stale
Docker launcher entry.

* Migrate existing installs off the docker group
The default flip only reaches new installs; existing users keep their docker
group membership and stay exposed. Extend the migration that already refreshes
the Docker launcher to also remove the current user from the group when present,
reusing omarchy-remove-security-sudoless-docker so there is one source of truth
for the change and its notice. It takes effect at next login (the current
session keeps working), and passwordless docker can be turned back on from
Setup > Security > Sudoless Docker.
Migrations run with sudo available — during `omarchy update`, or in the terminal
the pending-migrations notification opens — so the privileged removal does not
prompt at an unattended login. The no-op path (already out of the group) needs
no privilege.

* Refuse symlinked VM mount sources; correct the docker CLI docs
Review follow-ups.
valid_path keeps a traversal string (/./, //, ..) out of the compose, but it is
a string check: a symlink planted at ~/.windows or ~/Windows redirects the
privileged bind mount exactly as traversal would, because docker follows it. So
verify the mount sources as root immediately before bringing the VM up — refuse
a source that is a symlink or resolves through one — which is where the string
check cannot help. A missing source stays fine (docker creates a plain dir).
Also correct the development-tools manual: the CLI is not transparently elevated
(there is no docker wrapper and `d` is still plain docker), so say plainly that
docker on the command line takes `sudo` until sudoless Docker is enabled.

omarchy-notification-send now calls org.freedesktop.Notifications.Notify
directly with `busctl --user`, instead of shelling out to notify-send. Each
value is one typed D-Bus parameter, so there is no argv/option layer that could
reinterpret a relayed headline like `--hint=…` or `-rf` as an option or a hint:
the summary and body are strings, and omarchy-exec-argv is built only from
--exec. A leading `--` keeps busctl's own getopt from reading a dash-leading
value as a busctl option.
Map -i to app_icon, -t to expire_timeout, and urgency to the byte hint; unknown
options are now a hard error rather than a silent pass-through. Route the unused
hypr o.notify helper and the sample hooks through the wrapper too, and tighten
the bin-style test so nothing under bin/ may call notify-send. The test stubs
busctl and trips if notify-send is invoked.
* Add Super + Q as a second chord for closing a window
Super + W stays the documented default. Super + Q is the chord people
arrive with from macOS, where Command + Q quits the app, and typing it
into Omarchy did nothing at all until now.
🤖 Generated by Opus 5 in Claude Code. Reviewed by Codex XHigh.
* Put an action's alternative chord on one keybindings row
Super + W and Super + Q both read "Close window" in the menu, two rows
apart, with nothing to say they were the same thing -- and the
alternative sorted above the default. The scratchpad and the calculator
had the same trouble, each bound to a chord and to a second key.
Four actions are named as having an alternative, one at a time, and the
second chord joins the first one's row. A rule would be wrong here: Alt +
Tab and Shift + Alt + Tab both say "Reveal active window on top" while
cycling opposite ways, and a media key is nobody's idea of an alternative
to a Super chord. Both halves still have to agree on what they dispatch,
since a label is only what a chord is called, and an unresolved
dispatcher never counts as agreement.
Nothing is allowed past the 35-character column: a pair that would
overrun it stays as two rows rather than pushing its arrow out of line.
The menu elides a row that outgrows its card -- 754px of label, 78
monospace characters at the heading size -- and the longest entry already
sits at 74, so widening the column to fit the widest pair would have cost
two dozen rows the end of their description.
Priority ordering reads the rendered row, so the chord sharing it would
otherwise reclassify the entry: XF86Calculator alone belongs in the tail
kept for media keys, and it took the calculator down there with it.
Ranking now reads the chord that leads the row.
The key left of 1 reads as ~ rather than Hyprland's name for it, whether
a bind names it or reports the keycode for the keymap to resolve. Cached
records predate all of this, so the cache version moves with it.

* Open the scratchpad with the default agent already in it
on_created_empty fires when the special workspace is created empty, so the
agent starts the first time the console drops down instead of at boot, and
comes back on the next open if you close it.
The exec rule pins the workspace rather than trusting the spawn to inherit
it: Hyprland only tags a process with its origin workspace while
misc.initial_workspace_tracking is on, and we turn that off.
Nothing to guard for a missing default agent. Omarchy picks none for you,
and omarchy-agent exits without opening a window when none is set, so the
scratchpad just opens empty until one is chosen.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Move the console into its own file and size it to half the screen
The scratchpad's presentation was scattered through looknfeel: a dim in the
decoration block, a workspace rule below it, two animation leaves further
down again. Gathered into qconsole.lua, where the whole console is one
readable thing.
Sized to half the screen while it moved. A window rule cannot do that: its
size expressions resolve once, when the window maps, so rescaling the
monitor afterwards leaves a console that is no longer half of anything.
Gaps are re-applied by the layout, so the console is sized by the gap left
underneath it, recomputed from the monitor whenever the layout changes.
Monitor dimensions come back in physical pixels while gaps are logical, so
the scale comes out before the reserved area comes off. That arithmetic is
the whole trick, and the test pins it at 1x, 2x and 1.5x.
The test runs lua with an explicit "-". Bare `lua <<EOF` reads stdin as a
REPL and exits 0 even after an error, which would leave its assertions
unable to fail.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Only rewrite the console rule when its size actually changes
Refitting replaces the rule in place rather than stacking a new one, so
there was no leak, but each write still schedules a monitor and window state
refresh and monitor.focused fires on every hop between screens. Remember
what was last written and skip the write when the number has not moved.
Also say out loud that the scale guard is what keeps the arithmetic below it
safe: a monitor handle that has outlived its output answers nil to every
field, and a layout change is exactly when that happens.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Drop the active window border inside the console
The gradient border marks which window has focus, which the console does not
need: it is only ever focused while it is open, and the dimmed workspace
behind it already sets it apart. On a single agent terminal the highlight
just reads as a frame around the panel.
no_border on the workspace rule pins the border to 0 at workspace-rule
priority, so it applies to whatever ends up in there without touching the
global border.

* Give scratchpad a Quake-style presentation
* Keep the Quake scratchpad from restyling every window
The presentation was bought with global decoration defaults: rounding went
0 -> 5 and both shadow and blur were switched back on for every window on
the system, undoing 935283c8. Blur in particular is close to invisible
here, since every window is already tagged 0.985/0.96 opacity and no layer
rule asks for it, so it was GPU load on every frame for almost nothing.
Put the globals back and scope the rounding to the scratchpad with a window
rule, the same way popped windows already get theirs. The inset, dim_special
and the slide carry the effect on their own. dim_special only applies while
a special workspace is open, so it stays.
Also drop the four workspace-rule booleans that only restated Hyprland's
defaults, fold the stale scratchpad rows in the hotkey table into the new
ones, and give the binding assertions their own fixture instead of borrowing
the bar-panel one.

* Measure the About layout in UTF-8 so its window is not fitted too narrow
wc -L only counts display columns in a UTF-8 locale. A session that never
set one leaves it counting the box-drawing and Nerd Font glyphs the About
layout is built from as nothing, which measured the content 21 columns
narrower than it renders and fitted the window to clip it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Open the About window at the size it last settled on
The window used to map at the float rule's starting size, paint, and only
then measure itself and resize, so every open flashed one window size and
reflowed into another. The size that hugs the content can only be measured
from inside the terminal, so remember it and apply it as a window rule
before the terminal is spawned: the window now maps at its final size and
never moves. A rebranded logo or a new font falls back to the float rule
for one launch, refits, and is remembered from then on.
The fit itself now moves the window by the cells it is off by, rather than
scaling it to the grid, which multiplied up the terminal's padding along
with them and left the fit a column or two short. It accepts a cell of
slack instead of chasing an exact grid, since a window lands where the
terminal's cell boundaries put it, not where it was asked to.

The floating rule pinned every agent terminal to 1200x800, which
overflows small and scaled displays: window rules see logical pixels, so
a 2560x1440 monitor at scale 1.6 is only 1600x900 and the window covered
89% of its height. Tiling drops the fixed size along with the rule, and
the shared app-id still earns the terminal tag from terminals.lua.
* Reshape the agent launcher into omarchy agent
omarchy-launch-agent becomes omarchy-agent, with prompts on omarchy-agent-prompt
rather than the bare route: `omarchy agent` is both a command and a group, so a
positional prompt there would shadow any subcommand under it. The launcher takes
flags only and points at `omarchy agent prompt` when handed one.
Every agent window now launches under a fixed org.omarchy.agent app-id instead of
omarchy-launch-tui's default of org.omarchy.<binary>, so one rule floats them all
whichever agent is default.
Omarchy also stops picking an agent for you. omarchy-default-agent prints nothing
until one is chosen, leaving every entry under Setup > Defaults > Agent unchecked,
and a first-run invitation offers to take you there.
* Wordsmith
* Cover the agent routes and the invitation
The route split is the point of the change, so exercise `omarchy agent`,
`omarchy agent prompt`, and a rejected positional prompt through the router
rather than only the binaries behind them.
The invitation gets the same treatment as the Voxtype and fingerprint ones: it
notifies once, opens the agent defaults menu, and leaves both the notification
and the marker alone for anyone who already chose an agent.
* Offer the agent choice from the keybinding
Super + Shift + Ctrl + A now runs `omarchy-agent --pick`, which opens Setup >
Defaults > Agent when nothing is chosen yet. A keypress that writes to stderr
and opens nothing just looks broken.
* Reach existing installs with the agent invitation
first-run installs the invitation hook, and existing accounts marked it complete
long ago, so they would never see it -- while being the accounts most likely to
need it, since the old getter returned opencode implicitly and most have no
agent recorded at all. Post-update hooks run later in the same update, so the
invitation arrives without waiting for another one.
* Say what the Defaults submenus set
Setup > Defaults lists Agent, Browser, Terminal, Editor, but the header inside
each repeated the same bare word, which reads as a category rather than a
setting -- and says nothing at all when the menu is summoned straight into it.
The list keeps its short labels; the headers now name the setting.
lspci reads PCI config space, and the kernel resumes a runtime-suspended
device to serve that read. On a hybrid laptop the discrete GPU idles in
D3cold, so the first lspci of a Hyprland config load spends over a second
waking it — longer than the 1.5s budget Hyprland gives the whole load.
The reload then fails at whichever line runs next, which is why the error
pointed at default/hypr/apps/1password.lua rather than at nvidia.lua.
Read the vendor, class, and device IDs from sysfs instead. Those are
served from cached fields and never touch config space, so nothing wakes
up. Classify by device ID while we're here: Turing is both the first
generation with GSP firmware and the first at 0x1e00 or above, and
Maxwell opens at 0x1340, one ID past the last Kepler part. Bounding the
older detector at both ends keeps pre-Maxwell cards off the 580xx driver
that cannot drive them, and picks up the Maxwell and Pascal parts the
lspci name regex used to miss.
omarchy-hw-nvidia was also checked in without its executable bit, which
it needs now that nvidia.lua runs it.

The letters name a panel; the numbers count them. One is the leftmost
panel in the right section, so the number matches the icon a user would
point at: a widget with no panel of its own is passed over, and so is one
that is hiding itself.
Counting rather than naming means the hotkeys follow the bar. Rearranging
the section, or adding a widget to it, renumbers the panels with no
binding to rewrite.
