0ad64a59df Fix command injection in theme install, drop tzupdate NOPASSWD (#6694)
* Fix theme install code execution and drop tzupdate NOPASSWD

VULN-01 (C, D, E): a malicious theme can execute arbitrary code
during install through three injection sinks:

  C: colors.toml values reach a sed script unsanitized.
     GNU sed's `e` flag runs the pattern space as a shell command.

  D: vscode.json `.name` is interpolated into a sed replacement
     string without escaping sed metacharacters.

  E: keyboard.rgb content is interpolated into a python3 -c
     argument without validation.

Fix C by validating keys and values in omarchy-theme-color's parser
with a character allowlist. Byte-identical output for all 22 shipped
themes.

Fix D by escaping backslash, ampersand, and slash in the theme name
before sed interpolation.

Fix E by gating on ^[0-9A-Fa-f]{6}$ before interpolation, in both
the Framework 16 and ASUS ROG keyboard scripts.

VULN-02: the tzupdate sudoers grant has no argument constraint.
tzupdate -l lets any wheel user write a root-owned symlink to any
path. Drop it; nothing has invoked tzupdate since omarchy-cmd-tzupdate
was removed. Keep timedatectl set-timezone.

* Harden keyboard and vscode theme scripts

keyboard-f16: pass hex as sys.argv instead of interpolating into
python3 -c. The hex validation gate stays as the primary defense;
argv separation is defense-in-depth per OWASP guidance.

vscode: replace sed interpolation of theme name with jq, which
handles arbitrary strings safely via --arg. Validate extension IDs
against ^[a-zA-Z0-9._-]+$ before passing to --install-extension.

* Keep VS Code settings edits JSONC-safe

settings.json is JSONC, so routing the write through jq dropped theme sync
entirely for anyone with a comment or trailing comma in the file, including
the `{ "workbench.colorTheme": "",\n}` shape Omarchy itself creates. Edit in
place again and close the injection by validating the theme label instead.

Scope the extension-id guard to the install so a malformed id no longer skips
the colorTheme write, and treat a missing descriptor field as empty rather
than the literal string "null".

The sanitizer dropped gradient angles, decimals, underscored palette
references, and paths, which vanish from --raw/--all and leave a raw
{{ placeholder }} in the generated config. Allow the punctuation real
palettes use, keep out everything sed treats as special, and say so on
stderr rather than dropping a key silently.

76dc120ccb Fit the About window to its rendered content (#6627)
* Fit the About window to its rendered content

The About fastfetch layout needs more columns than the shared 875x600
float provides, and the terminal's grid often only reaches its final
size after fastfetch has printed, leaving the output wrapped over the
logo or clipped at the initial 80-column grid (#6465).

Give About a dedicated org.omarchy.about app id so launch-or-focus can
actually match it, render through a loop that repaints on window size
or branding changes, and measure the rendered content to fit the window
around it with even padding, whatever the terminal font or About logo.

Gavin NugentandGitHub fa3d28ca61 Stop long fastfetch values from wrapping over the About logo (#6491)
Values longer than the remaining terminal width wrap back to column 0
and overwrite the logo column, which breaks the whole About layout. The
packages line triggers this on most systems.

Set display.disableLinewrap so overlong values clip at the right edge
instead. fastfetch documents this as the default but does not apply it
unless set explicitly.

1ea910f662 Let systemd-oomd kill a runaway app instead of losing the session (#6445)
Nothing stood between "memory is tight" and "processes die at random":
the kernel OOM killer only fires after an allocation has already failed,
so a machine under pressure thrashes in reclaim until something breaks
somewhere fatal — seen in practice as Hyprland taking SIGBUS mid-memcpy
from a client shm pool that memory pressure was tearing down.

Enable systemd-oomd, which keys on PSI stall time rather than free
pages, and mark app.slice — and only app.slice — as its kill candidate.
Hyprland runs in session.slice, so the compositor is structurally
ineligible as a victim: oomd takes the app that caused the pressure and
the session survives. Thresholds (50% stall over 20s, Fedora's desktop
defaults) live in an oomd.conf.d drop-in; candidacy ships as a vendor
drop-in under /usr/lib/systemd/user so existing users get it on package
upgrade with no per-user seeding.

New installs enable the daemon from enable-services.sh; a migration
covers existing ones, restarting an already-running oomd so it doesn't
keep stale thresholds until reboot.

Deliberately not earlyoom: it triggers only when free RAM and free swap
are both under threshold, so Omarchy's large, mostly-idle swapfiles
keep it asleep through exactly this failure.

pacman checks file conflicts during transaction prepare, so the --overwrite
entry added alongside /etc/systemd/zram-generator.conf never got to run: the
copy of omarchy-update-system-pkgs driving the upgrade is the one already on
disk. Every machine carrying archinstall's copy aborted the transaction.

zram-generator.conf(5) reserves /etc for the local admin and has vendors ship
snippets under /usr/lib/systemd/zram-generator.conf.d/, where drop-ins outrank
the main config file. Nothing collides, and the tuning wins whether or not
archinstall's file is still around.

David Heinemeier HanssonandClaude Opus 5 9ddcec272d Lock the screen before suspend instead of racing logind for it
Closing the lid could suspend the machine with the session still exposed.
omarchy-sleep-lock held a delay inhibitor and waited for Quickshell to report
the session secure, but a delay inhibitor is a timer rather than a promise:
logind suspends once InhibitDelayMaxSec expires, locked or not. The default is
five seconds, and closing the lid also reconfigures displays -- exactly when
the lock service is waiting for the screen set to settle before it can secure.

The race is now off the critical path. switch:on:Lid Switch runs
omarchy-system-lid-close, which requests the lock the moment the lid closes,
before logind has decided to suspend at all, so the inhibitor window usually
finds the session already secure. A docked lid close does not suspend
(HandleLidSwitchDocked defaults to ignore) and must not lock either, since that
is clamshell mode still in use on the external display, so the handler gates on
the same closed-and-undocked pair logind itself keys on.

Suspends that never touch the lid -- idle timeout, the system menu, low battery
-- still arrive through the inhibitor, so that path gets room to work too. The
shipped drop-in raises InhibitDelayMaxSec to 15s, and the helper derives its
budget from logind's live InhibitDelayMaxUSec rather than assuming the drop-in
landed: a machine that has not reloaded logind yet, or that carries its own
override, gets a budget that fits what logind will actually allow. It leaves
logind a fifth of its own window and caps at 12s, so a hand-raised window
cannot strand a closed laptop awake in a bag.

The wait itself had three defects. Its deadline arithmetic read EPOCHREALTIME
assuming a period, so under any comma-decimal locale the subtraction parsed as
bash's comma operator and silently voided the deadline, leaving only the
attempt counter to stop it. The lock request shared the status polls' timeout
and exited on first failure, so a shell 300ms slow meant suspending unlocked;
it now has its own budget and is simply retried, since asking again is
idempotent. And a refusal the shell reports on stdout with a zero exit --
missing-pam -- read as success, burning the whole window on a lock that could
never happen.

Every call is bounded by what is left of the budget rather than by an estimate
of what the step should cost, so the deadline holds on hardware slower than
anything the constants were fitted to.

Failure is still possible and it used to be silent. It now writes to the
journal and raises a critical notification, which lands on the screen the user
unlocks into.

Incidentally, monitor-recovery-test asserted lid probing against
omarchy-hw-clamshell after that logic moved to omarchy-hw-laptop-closed. It
aborted the file under set -e, skipping the nine assertions behind it.

Omarchy installed zram-generator but never shipped a config for it, so the
only zram tuning any machine had was whatever the ISO wrote once, and the VM
sysctls were untouched kernel defaults aimed at spinning disks.

The generator's own default caps the device at 4G, which on a large machine
sends reclaim to the hibernation swapfile far earlier than it needs to go.
Ship min(ram / 2, 8192) instead, matching what Fedora settles on, and state
the priority explicitly since it has to sit above the pri=0 that
omarchy-hibernation-setup gives the disk swapfile.

The four sysctls follow from swap being RAM rather than a disk. swappiness
above 100 says evicting an anonymous page beats dropping a page-cache page
that would have to be read back, which is true once swap is compressed
memory. page-cluster drops to one page per fault because the default of 8
buys readahead for a seek zram doesn't have and pays a decompression for
each page. Zeroing watermark_boost_factor stops fragmentation from producing
reclaim bursts while memory is still free, and raising watermark_scale_factor
gives kswapd room to reclaim in the background instead of letting allocations
stall in direct reclaim. The last two are what actually addresses the stutter
people notice and misread as swap being used too eagerly: proactive swapping
to zram is the cure, and synchronous direct reclaim is the disease.

Every ISO-installed machine already has an unowned zram-generator.conf, which
pacman would refuse to overwrite, so both upgrade paths need it listed.

Kernel 7.1 unpacks the initramfs asynchronously, which races /init: the
early /proc, /sys, /dev, and /run mounts fail with EPERM while unpacking
settles, so plymouthd exits when it can't read /proc/cmdline and encrypted
boots fall back to an unthemed text LUKS prompt. Boot still completes only
because the kernel passes key=value cmdline params to init as environment
variables and devtmpfs is automounted.

Force synchronous unpacking via initramfs_async=0 until the race is fixed
upstream: in the packaged defaults for fresh installs, and via migration
for existing systems.

The on-battery toggle bought a fraction of a watt while the radio
idled -- twenty-some minutes across a full discharge in the best case
-- and paid for it with 20-300ms latency spikes on idle links and
outright link drops on Intel BE200/BE211 firmware. NetworkManager can
keep power save off natively with one conf.d line, which replaces the
udev rule, the setter script, and any per-card deny-listing.

Explicit profile selections from the power panel or menu are now saved
under an ac/battery key in ~/.local/state/omarchy/powerprofiles and
reapplied on boot and on plug/unplug. Only successful, user-made
selections are persisted, so the performance/balanced defaults still
apply when nothing has been chosen.

All entry points key off the same power signal, UPower's OnBattery:
the shell reads it natively and omarchy-powerprofiles-set autodetect
queries it via busctl. This replaces the sysfs online checks, which
disagreed with the shell on desktops without power_supply entries and
lagged behind plug events on some USB-C laptops.

Plug/unplug switching moves from the udev rule into the shell's battery
service, which already receives UPower's debounced state changes, so
the udev rule and its settle-sleep workaround are gone.

Bundling vconsole.conf makes Plymouth apply the user's layout at the LUKS
prompt, but for layouts whose letter keys aren't Latin (Hebrew, Greek,
Cyrillic, Arabic, ...) that makes the necessarily-Latin passphrase
untypeable and locks the user out of their machine.

mkinitcpio sources its conf.d drop-ins as shell, so omarchy_hooks.conf now
checks XKBLAYOUT at every rebuild and only bundles the file for Latin
layouts; non-Latin layouts keep the US fallback the passphrase was set
under. A migration strips the unconditional line and rebuilds the UKI on
affected installs.

Closes #6229.

cb989615f0 Align MAX_SNAPSHOT_ENTRIES with Snapper retention (off-by-one) (#6175)

Snapper is configured with NUMBER_LIMIT="5", but limine-snapper-sync
also counts the freshly-created / currently-booted snapshot, so five
retained snapshots are reported as six entries and it warns on every
snapshot and update:

  Snapshot limit mismatch: 6 Snapper snapshots exceed configured
  MAX_SNAPSHOT_ENTRIES=5

Raise MAX_SNAPSHOT_ENTRIES to 6 (NUMBER_LIMIT + 1) so the boot-menu cap
and Snapper's retention agree and the off-by-one warning stops. (An
alternative is MAX_SNAPSHOT_ENTRIES=auto, which derives the cap from
Snapper directly; kept an explicit value here to preserve the existing
boot-menu limit.)

f322f0332b Drop fixed unit name from power-profile udev rule to prevent wakeup failures
With a fixed --unit name, the rule fails to start when a unit from a
previous power event still exists, leaving the power profile stale.
Letting systemd-run generate unique unit names keeps every trigger
working; --collect still garbage-collects each unit on exit.

Ryan Hughes babfafa5e9 Split user defaults into skel seed, finalize, and resync
Reorganizes Omarchy 4 around three layers for populating $HOME:

  Seed:     omarchy-settings ships defaults to /etc/skel; useradd -m
            copies them on user creation
  Finalize: omarchy-finalize-user (renamed from omarchy-setup-user)
            handles only the runtime tweaks /etc/skel can't do — skill
            symlinks, xdg-user-dirs, default browser/mailto, vconsole→hypr
            keyboard sync, and install/user/all.sh
  Resync:   omarchy-reinstall-configs is the explicit, destructive
            resync of /etc/skel into an existing user's $HOME

Package-owned files move out of config/ into default/, where the
omarchy-settings PKGBUILD installs them to real system paths:

  config/environment.d/fcitx.conf            -> /usr/lib/environment.d/
  config/fontconfig/fonts.conf               -> /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/
  config/mimeapps.list                       -> /usr/share/applications/
  config/omarchy.ttf                         -> /usr/share/fonts/omarchy/
  config/systemd/user/*.service              -> /usr/lib/systemd/user/
  config/uwsm/default                        -> /usr/share/omarchy/default/uwsm/
  config/uwsm/env                            -> /usr/share/uwsm/env.d/10-omarchy
  config/xdg-terminals.list                  -> /usr/share/xdg-terminal-exec/

omarchy-upgrade-to-4 grows a 'retire' action (renamed from 'move' to
clarify nothing is copied — the system path is owned by the new package
once the user's hash-matched ~/.config copy is removed). Mismatched
copies are kept as backups so user overrides survive the upgrade.

Other simplifications:

  - Single env bootstrap at default/bash/env-bootstrap sourced by
    /etc/profile.d/omarchy.sh, /etc/skel/.bashrc,
    /usr/share/uwsm/env.d/10-omarchy, and default/bash/envs. PATH
    prepend only in dev-link mode (production uses /usr/bin/omarchy-*).
  - omarchy-refresh-config reads from /etc/skel/.config so refresh
    means 'snap to skel'.
  - omarchy-reinstall-configs collapses to 'cp -af /etc/skel/. ~/'
    plus limine/plymouth/nvim refresh.
  - omarchy-font-set uses awk against our own 30-omarchy.conf instead
    of xmlstarlet; xmlstarlet dropped from omarchy-base.packages.
  - Defer user systemd enables (bt-agent, sleep-lock,
    recover-internal-monitor) to first-run via
    install/user/first-run/enable-user-units.sh; delete
    omarchy-user-systemctl-enable and the per-hardware install
    scripts that called it.
  - Wireplumber bluetooth-a2dp-autoconnect.conf moves to config/ so
    /etc/skel ships it; install/user/hardware/bluetooth.sh deleted.
  - Default terminal switched to foot.desktop.
  - docs/file-layout.md documents the three-layer model and the
    build-time repo→path map.

Ryan Hughes b887d18b84 Trim over-commented Chunk 3+/4 work
A pass over the install scripts, dev-tools commands, and Hyprland Lua
files that I had stuffed with explain-everything preambles. Most of
those rationales (which files ship where, why hyprctl setenv doesn't
suffice, etc.) belong in commit messages or PR descriptions, not in
code people have to read forever. Kept the few comments that document
genuinely non-obvious behaviour: the keybind-env reason for hl.env in
envs.lua, why the runtime PAM seds stay scripted in
increase-lockout-limit, the chroot/--now distinction in chroot.sh, and
the dev-pkg-test split-install reason.

Ryan Hughes ea54e25bba Tighten omarchy-tzupdate sudoers to set-timezone subcommand only
Mirrors the upstream tightening in install/config/timezones.sh (which
this etc-overrides file replaced): scope the wheel passwordless rule
to 'timedatectl set-timezone *' instead of the whole timedatectl, so
the rule can't be used to flip other system clock settings.

Adopted while rebasing onto current origin/omarchy-shell.

Ryan Hughes 7e7a665663 Switch dev-link mechanism from shadow-dir to /etc/omarchy.conf
omarchy-dev-link (lands in a follow-up) writes OMARCHY_PATH=<checkout>
to /etc/omarchy.conf. Three boot/session entry points now source it
before falling back to /usr/share/omarchy:

- /etc/profile.d/omarchy.sh   (login shells, SSH)
- config/uwsm/env             (Hyprland session via UWSM)
- default/bash/envs           (non-login interactive bash; duplicated for
                              SSH and similar)

All three use 'export OMARCHY_PATH="${OMARCHY_PATH:-/usr/share/omarchy}"'
so /etc/omarchy.conf wins over the default, and install.sh's script-mode
export wins over /etc/omarchy.conf (because both use the :- guard).

Hyprland updates session env on the fly via hyprctl setenv +
systemctl --user import-environment, so omarchy-dev-link can re-trigger
those to make live sessions pick up the new path without restart.

Ryan Hughes 0777b20967 Make profile.d prefer /usr/share/omarchy-dev when present
Sets up the shadow-dir pattern that omarchy-dev-link will use: when
/usr/share/omarchy-dev exists (as a symlink to a local checkout),
$OMARCHY_PATH resolves there instead of /usr/share/omarchy. The PATH
prepend then makes the checkout's bin/ override the package's
/usr/bin copies.

This covers every hot-edit surface that resolves via $OMARCHY_PATH:
bin/, default/, shell/, and themes/. Things that don't go through
$OMARCHY_PATH (udev rules, systemd drop-ins, /etc-installed configs,
plymouth themes, /etc/skel seeds) remain unaffected by dev-link and
require omarchy-dev-pkg-test to verify changes — which is also what
you'd want before shipping any of those anyway.

Ryan Hughes a4c4e5964f Clarify why profile.d/omarchy.sh prepends $OMARCHY_PATH/bin
The previous comment said 'mainly relevant for the script-install path',
but install.sh and default/bash/envs already prepend it there. The real
reason is dev-link: when /usr/share/omarchy is a symlink to a local
checkout, this prepend lets the checkout's bin/ override the /usr/bin/
copies installed by the package.

Ryan Hughes f02f4a25b3 Ship /etc/profile.d/omarchy.sh defaulting OMARCHY_PATH
For shells outside the install flow (login shells, cron jobs, dev work)
the install.sh-set OMARCHY_PATH isn't in scope. Without a system-wide
default, omarchy-* commands shipped at /usr/bin can't find runtime data
under /usr/share/omarchy/.

profile.d sets OMARCHY_PATH=/usr/share/omarchy if not already set, so
install.sh's override (to $HOME/.local/share/omarchy during script-install)
still wins. The omarchy-dev-link workflow manages a symlink at
/usr/share/omarchy that points at a local checkout when active.

Also prepends $OMARCHY_PATH/bin to PATH if the directory exists (mainly
matters for script-install mode; /usr/bin is on PATH for package mode).

Ryan Hughes dcac0ed953 Convert plocate-ac-only, power-profile, wifi-powersave, unmount-fuse to package files
Four scripts that wrote static /etc or /usr files become package-shipped
files. The other config-script audit candidates (omarchy-ai-skill,
nautilus-python, omarchy-toggles, input-group) correctly stay scripts —
they're user-level operations, not /etc writes.

New package-owned files (omarchy-installer/etc/, shipped by
omarchy-settings):
- etc/systemd/system/plocate-updatedb.service.d/ac-only.conf
- etc/udev/rules.d/99-omarchy-power-profile.rules
- etc/udev/rules.d/99-omarchy-wifi-powersave.rules

The two udev rule files are renamed for namespacing (99-power-profile
-> 99-omarchy-power-profile; 99-wifi-powersave -> 99-omarchy-wifi-powersave)
and rewritten to invoke /usr/bin/omarchy-powerprofiles-set and
/usr/bin/omarchy-wifi-powersave instead of $HOME/.local/share/omarchy/bin/...
(both binaries ship in the omarchy package at /usr/bin/).

The battery-present gate from the original scripts is dropped — the rules
trigger on power_supply udev events, which are benign on desktops without
batteries. (The runtime commands no-op on AC-only systems.)

Script changes:
- install/config/plocate-ac-only.sh: DELETED (file ships, daemon-reload
  happens via pacman hook).
- install/config/unmount-fuse.sh: DELETED (file ships at
  /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/unmount-fuse via omarchy-settings).
- install/config/powerprofilesctl-rules.sh: SHRINK to runtime ops
  (enable power-profiles-daemon, udevadm reload+trigger).
- install/config/wifi-powersave-rules.sh: SHRINK to udevadm reload+trigger.
- install/config/all.sh: drop the two deleted entries.

bin/omarchy-update-system-pkgs: add --overwrite for plocate-updatedb
drop-in and unmount-fuse paths (the udev rule renames need no overwrite
since the new paths are virgin).

migrations/1779307845.sh: remove the legacy 99-power-profile.rules and

Ryan Hughes e6e6328db7 Add etc/ source tree for package-shipped /etc files
This tree is the source for omarchy-settings to install into /etc
(for paths Omarchy fully owns) or stage at /usr/share/omarchy/etc-overrides
(for paths upstream packages own, which the post_install copies into place).

Package-owned drop-ins (no upstream conflict):
- etc/docker/daemon.json
- etc/systemd/system/docker.service.d/no-block-boot.conf
- etc/systemd/resolved.conf.d/20-docker-dns.conf
- etc/systemd/resolved.conf.d/10-disable-multicast.conf
- etc/systemd/system.conf.d/10-faster-shutdown.conf
- etc/systemd/system/user@.service.d/10-faster-shutdown.conf
  (renamed from .../faster-shutdown.conf for consistency)
- etc/systemd/logind.conf.d/10-ignore-power-button.conf
  (replaces the previous in-place sed-edit of logind.conf)
- etc/gnupg/dirmngr.conf
- etc/sysctl.d/99-omarchy-sysctl.conf  (renamed from the 99-sysctl.conf
  appendage; a migration cleans up the old path on existing installs)
- etc/sysctl.d/90-omarchy-file-watchers.conf
- etc/modprobe.d/omarchy-usb-autosuspend.conf
  (renamed from disable-usb-autosuspend.conf)
- etc/sudoers.d/omarchy-asdcontrol
  (renamed from asdcontrol; $USER -> %wheel for packaging)
- etc/sudoers.d/omarchy-tzupdate
- etc/sudoers.d/omarchy-passwd-tries
  (renamed from passwd-tries for namespacing)

Etc-overrides (upstream-owned paths; staged by the PKGBUILD at
/usr/share/omarchy/etc-overrides/ and cp'd in by post_install):
- etc/security/faillock.conf (owned by pam)
- etc/nsswitch.conf (owned by filesystem)
- etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf (owned by cups-browsed)
- etc/plymouth/plymouthd.conf (owned by plymouth)

All sudoers files validate with visudo -cf.

The install scripts that previously wrote these files are updated or
removed in follow-up commits.
